1977 Championship Tackle0 viewsIn 1972 Smithwick bought Championship Tackle Company which was also located in Shreveport, LA. In 1973 we begin to see some Championship items show up in Smithwick Ads. This catalog could be anywhere from 1973 to 1977. Perhaps one day we will find some Smithwick charts for 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976 and they will allow us to determine a better date for this Championship Catalog.Nov 14, 2008

1969 Fishing Facts - March1 viewsThis is a great article in Fishing Facts introducing the Smithwick Water Gater. It indicates that the Water Gater was developed in 1967-1968, tested privately in late 1968 and put on the market Jan 1, 1969. Jack Smithwick goes on to say.." I know most fisherman in northern states have never heard of the Smithwicks or their Devil's Warhorse series. Southern anglers sure have-- even though we don't advertise. Our baits, through word of mouth recommendations have spread over the south and the south-east." Nov 11, 2008
